Hey friends, welcome to Interactive Health Clinic. This is Dr. Brenden Cochran. Today we’re going to talk about an amino acid called arginine. So arginine is an important amino acid for precursors of something called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide can be a gas in your bloodstream. It can also be a neurotransmitter as well in your brain or nervous system. Nitric oxide is critical for your ability to be able to vasodilate basically get blood flow to specific areas. So commonly some people may be become familiar with it as part of an important precursor in pre-workouts also more chronically it may be used in some cardiac issues and erectile dysfunction, where you see it clinically being used the most. Now it’s very important that this is used is carefully amongest other things as arginine in a very oxidative individual could cause harm to the vascular system, if it’s not prepped properly.

So I don’t advise anybody until they’ve had a full workup to take large quantities of oral or IV Arginine until we know that another thing to be cautious with arginine, even though it has all these great benefits and vascular support is if you do take arginine in larger quantities, it can promote having a herpes simplex outbreak. So if you, you have a pre predisposition to getting those, and you start taking large quantities of this, it is possible to suddenly have an outbreak from taking this. So, you want to be cautious with that. Arginine interesting thing there is only so much you can take orally because your digestive system just doesn’t like, or can’t absorb it all. So it can some digestive upset if you go too high. However, when we put it in an IM or IV nutrient form, we can go much higher and not have those side effects. And when we start to do it in that fashion, we can have a direct impact not only on cardiovascular and erectile tissues, but we start to have an impact on growth hormone, which growth hormone is essential, and you produce it at night before you go to bed for you to repair as you continue to age.
