If you’re craving something sweet, it might surprise you to know artificial sweeteners are not your friends.

Negative Side Effects of Artificial Sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners often have many negative side effects such as increases in appetite, increased weight gain, headaches, and digestive ulcerations. It is extremely beneficial to avoid all artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame® (NutraSweet®, Equal®), Saccharin (Sweet’N Low®, SugarTwin®), Acesulfame K (Sunett®, Sweet One®), Sucralose (Splenda®), and the natural sweetener carrageenan as often as possible.

Carrageenan, which is commonly found in many natural ice creams, yogurts and chocolate milk, has been linked to increased inflammation and ulcerations of the digestive tract.

Healthier Sweeteners to eat

If a sweetener is needed, look to using organic cane sugar, pineapple juice, honey, maple syrup, xylitol or stevia in small amounts.
