Are your hormones playing havoc with your weight? Several health conditions can lead to hormone imbalances that cause weight gains.
Three ways that out of control hormones can make you gain weight
First up is hypothyroidism. Thyroid hormone regulates your cellular metabolism, and without enough of it every system in your body slows down. And when your body systems burn fewer calories, you tend to gain weight.
Second is extra estrogen. Estrogen levels that are too high is a risk factor for obesity in both sexes. In fact, a recent study found that it’s just as significant a risk factor as poor eating habits and lack of exercise.
Lastly – too much cortisol. Cortisol is a stress hormone, and when we’re under chronic stress our bodies go into survival mode – hoarding calories and storing as much as we can as fat.
So my tip is to work with your doctor to optimize these hormones so that your whole body is working in concert to lose weight.
